birthday festivities

I celebrated my birthday on Monday. I turned the big two-five! So weird...I still feel very much like a kid. As you can see I got two beautiful cakes for my birthday {no matter how old we are we still have cake}. The purple cake is from my mom, filipino style and the other one my sister made, coconut vanilla pudding cake. So good. I celebrated it twice -- one with friends and one with the family. Birthdays are a great excuse to have get togethers. I might even have a third celebration this week and go to a zumba black light party at the gym. heheh.

So since I haven't shared with you goals for 2012, I'll share with you some of my goals for my 25th year...

1. have a {decent} scripture study everyday
2. keep a daily journal {maybe online}
3. be a workout girl and exercise 5 times a week
4. sleep early/wake early
5. clean sweep my room and maintain it
6. be on time for things...break my late habit
7. open my online shop
8. establish myself - in career and location

...and many others but these are the main ones.

oh and I got my haircut. I've been planning to cut it for a while because I've had long hair for forever and wanted to try going short. My plan is to go gradually shorter and try different styles along the way. Should be fun :)

got my eyebrows did

I think eyebrows make a huge difference and can really shape your face. These eyebrows of mine are not my favorite. They're short, not very thick, the hair grows in different directions and are wispy at the ends {turn down at the ends}. I got my eyebrows done for my friends wedding. I was the MOH so I thought I'd clean it up a bit. One of my friends is from Trinidad and she said that they're expert on eyebrows and took me to get my eyebrows threaded {and she criticized me on my brows -- no offence taken...she's straight up like that} ha.

Lately I've tried going for more of the natural look and I really love thick eyebrows like this girl but I'm not sure if I can pull it off or if it suits me. This was the first time I got threading done and I was scared that I would be left with barely any eyebrows. It did hurt a little bit and it would for those who don't have experience with tweezing and waxing, but it wasn't bad at all and it was really quick. I think it turned out pretty nice...they cleaned it up, shaped and trimmed them. I was surprised my eyebrows could even be tamed like this. And it was $7...not bad.

AFTER

What do you think?
Should I stick with the thick natural brow OR maintain this look and have more of a defined brow?

ps. Another question for ya'll...
Do you know of any drugstore brands for eyebrow wax or good products for filling in eyebrows?

chambray look no. 4

Here is the last of the looks for how to wear a chambray shirt. You can wear it like a jacket or as a layering piece. I guess it's like another take on the denim jacket. The chambray shirt is definitely a basic / go-to / something to fall back on when you don't know what to wear while looking effortless shirt. I just love it. I hope you were inspired by these looks.

ps. I'm featured in a sponsor spotlight on Dearest Lou today. Stop over and say hi!

STYLE FILE | Jessi Bingham

Happy Friday! Meet a fellow Mormon fashion blogger Jessi. I enjoy her unique vintage style and her simple DIY projects. Visit her blog here

NAME: Jessi Bingham
AGE: 21
HOMETOWN: Pleasant Grove, Utah
BLOGGING SINCE: October 2011

Why did you initially decide to start a blog? I've become increasingly interested in fashion over the last few years and had recently discovered the world of fashion blogging. I started reading a few daily outfit-style blogs and decided it was something I really wanted to do! I was a bit nervous about starting my own blog but I just followed my heart and I've had a lot of fun discovering my own style and sharing it!
As a modest fashion blogger, what does modesty mean to you? I think dressing modestly reflects on my character and personality. By keeping modesty a standard I feel it shows I have self respect and confidence while still looking classy and well-dressed.
How would you describe your personal style? What/who inspires you? I think my personal style is kind of a girly vintage mix.. I'm inspired by anything indie or vintage, even a little of the Harajuku style. My favorite style icons are Zooey Deschanel and Audrey Hepburn. I love their classic feminineness and Zooey's vintage flare.
What are you must have accessories? Shoes are my number one accessory, I have an ever-growing collection...probably 70 pairs! Sometimes I'll even style an outfit around my shoes. I love the pop of color or unique style they add to an outfit. I also love to belt things! When in doubt, throwing a belt on usually works to add that extra something.

What do you do when you're not blogging? When I'm not blogging (or working) I'm usually spending time with my hubby. We love going to concerts, finding new shops or parks in our hometown, or just cuddling up to a new movie. Everyday is a new adventure with him! I also love shopping and DIY projects.
What are your favorite blogs? Why? I follow so many great blogs but one that's stuck with me from the beginning is Selective Potential. Tieka's style is so fun and girly. Her photos are always inspirational to me and her goofy adorable relationship with her husband reminds me of me and my hubby. Another blog I really love, not just for outfit posts but for great crafts and DIY ideas too is A Beautiful Mess. Her endless creativity is impressive and I love her sweet down-to-earth girly style.
What are some trends you love right now? Least favorite? I'm loving that tights are having a moment right now. One of my favorite things to do is wear a brightly colored pair of tights under my favorite dress. I also like the pleated, slouchy trousers look. One trend I can't really get myself to stand behind is "flatforms". You know those flat, platformed sandals? They're just...odd looking to me.

What clothing item would you say is timeless? I would say some form of a little black dress is always timeless, and of course a must have. I also think every girl needs a great pair of heels to make her feel confident and beautiful!

Thanks so much for coming by Jessi! Go ahead and check out her space here.

chambray look no. 3

Another way to wear your chambray is to button it up all the way. It's a preppier look and it's a simple change. You can add a statement necklace and this style looks good layered under a sweater or shirt. Like this.

chambray button up: thrifted
shoes: springs
necklace: thrifted
watch & frames: forever 21
pants: mom's closet
                                                                                                                                                                  ................photos by latoya

chambray look no. 2

Here's another way to style your classic chambray shirt. A simple tie in the front changes up the look and makes it more original. It's also a great modest-cover up for over a sleeveless dress or top! I styled it like this in another outfit.

hat: le chataeu
chambray button up: thrifted
skirt: forever 21
shoes: springs
ring: pacsun

On another note, here's some shots from valentines. You bes believe I went out with my girls again. We dressed up, went shopping at the mall, watched 'The Vow', and got dessert at Moxies. I say it was a day well spent and filled with lots oh love.

1. surprised by some chocolate goods from my sweet sweet mom. love her.
2. a flower crown that I made to make myself feel pretty..heh
3. did my nails with little hearts.
4. white chocolate brownie (soo good).

STYLE FILE | Leney

Hey friends, meet Leney! She's one of my good blog friends and one of my sweet sponsors. I love this girl's blog and taste in style. She is cool, crafty and inspiring. She also owns her own shop with her hand-made treasures. Visit her lovely blog here.

NAME: Leney
AGE: 20
HOMETOWN: Richmond Virginia
BLOG: A Girl Named Leney
BLOGGING SINCE: September 2010

How would you describe your style? I never know what to say when people ask me this! I tend to dress according to how I feel that day. I can be caught in anything from a pair of belted overalls, to a vintage 60's flowery dress, to a pair of black levi's and heels. I don't particularly ascribe to any one label or description. However I do have a love for all things vintage and the majority of my wardrobe is either thrifted or from my Mom's or Grandmother's closet! I've been told I dress indie a lot as well. So I'll leave the estimation up to you!

Who/what is your biggest style influence? I would have to say I go through phases. I am definitely very vintage inspired (as I mentioned  before) but I also love following a variety of fashion bloggers and getting ideas from the latest trends that they are wearing. I'm also very inspired by street style pictures. Such as those taken by The Sartorialist or Calivintage.
What are your 3 closet essentials? A dress, a cute belt and my favorite .75 vintage 60's sunglasses!

What are your favorite hobbies? I have a lot of hobbies! My favorites are probably anything arts and crafts related. Primarily knitting, photography, sewing and making jewelry. I have an Etsy shop that I opened a few months ago and I love making things for that. A portion of my proceeds go to various causes fighting against human trafficking.

If you could give one piece of style advice, what would it be? Be yourself. That's essentially what fashion is all about right? Being able to express yourself and who you are through what you wear. If you love something, even if it's not "in style" per say, wear it anyway! Don't let other people dictate who you are and what you love.

What is your motto? No one's ever asked me that before! But I think if there's something I tend to live by day to day it's that you have to find happiness in the little things. Because if you base all your happiness on big things, you're not going to be happy very often. So it's usually things like phone calls from friends, a chance to relax with a good book, and a visit to the local Krispy Kreme that make my day. And also I try to remember that no matter how bad a situation might be, everything will be ok in the end.

Any advice for anyone who wants to start her/his own blog? Just start! You'll be blogging for yourself at first, but that's half the fun. Getting to see your thoughts and adventures all written out and documented. And soon other people will take interest too and you'll have lots of new friends. That's what's so great about the blogging community. Everyone is so nice and friendly and so willing to encourage and support one another. It's fun to have friends, though virtual, all over the world!

What is your new years resolution? (if you have one) I typically am not one for new years resolutions. Mostly because as soon as I seem to resolve to do something it instantly doesn't happen. However, this year I made an unofficial resolution to dedicate more time to my Etsy shop, photography and blogging. They are the things I love doing and I want to dedicate as much time as I can to them. I also want to travel a lot this year! So we'll see how all that goes.

Thanks for coming over Leney! Go ahead and give her some blog lovin'

valentine's plans?

I've become more of a hopeless romantic over the recent years and I was surprised that last years Valentine's Day I was actually a lil saddened being dateless (I know...so cheesy and kind of embarrassed I'm sharing this). So I decided to make it a happy day. Me and a couple of my girls watched a good ol' chick flick and ate a whole lotta junk food and it helped. haha

I'm flying solo again this valentines and wondering what all you single ladies are doing?  Any fun ideas?

And to everyone else...What are your plans? I'd love to hear about it :)
